As Director of the company, Jim is responsible for overall corporate governance, policy, and organisational performance. With over 40 years of experience across all facets of the civil construction industry, he founded the company from the ground up and has successfully grown it into the established organisation it is today.
Jim has built the business through hands-on leadership, industry knowledge, and long-term commitment to quality project delivery. He leads a Senior Management Team that supports the ongoing growth and capability of the company, ensuring it continues to meet the evolving challenges of the construction industry.
James Carruthers (Director & Contracts Manager)
As a Director of the company, James has over 20 years of experience across civil construction, estimating, and project delivery. Beginning his career as a trade-qualified diesel mechanic, he progressed through on-site roles including Plant Operator, Leading Hand, Foreman and Project Manager before moving into estimating, where he has spent the past 15+ years delivering successful tender outcomes.
In his role as Director, James oversees pre-contracts and tendering activities and contributes to the strategic direction of the business. His strong understanding of construction methods, plant capabilities, and cost drivers supports sound commercial decision-making and effective project outcomes.
Brad Carruthers (Director & Construction Manager)
As a Director of the company, Brad brings more than 15 years of experience across civil and mining industry and project delivery, underpinned by a background as a trade-qualified diesel mechanic. This hands-on foundation has shaped a practical, solutions-focused approach to leadership and project execution.
In his role as Director, Brad is responsible for overseeing construction operations and supporting the overall strategic direction of the business. He combines strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness, including a clear understanding of construction methodologies, plant performance, and key cost drivers, enabling informed decision-making and successful project delivery outcomes.
Peter Stewart (Operations Manager)
Peter Stewart has a long and distinguished career with Carruthers Contracting spanning over 30 years of service. During this period Peter has led the company successfully through some landmark construction projects across South East Queensland. Peter’s loyalty and dedication to the company and its client base that seen long-standing business relationships flourish with his professionalism.
Michael King (Human Resources Manager)
With several years industry experience in the Construction, Mining and Oil & Gas sectors, Michael fronts Employee Relations and for Carruthers Contracting. Having worked closely with numerous clients from: International Organisations and Tier 1 companies, through to smaller contractors – Michael leads the business in implementing its cultural standards and policies and procedures.
Andrew Glastonbury (Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Manager)
As HSEQ Manager , Andrew provides leadership across our health, safety, environment, and quality systems. With a strong focus on practical implementation and compliance, Andrew oversees the development and continuous improvement of HSEQ systems, procedures, training, and workforce engagement initiatives. Experienced in incident investigation, risk management, and contractor oversight, Andrew ensures alignment with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, supporting a strong safety culture and the company’s commitment to continuous improvement.
Simon Lake (Bid Manager, Estimating & Procurement)
Simon is a highly experienced Procurement professional with over 30 years in the construction industry. His background also includes contracts and project management, as well as previous experience managing his family’s medium-sized construction business, giving him a strong commercial and operational understanding of project delivery.
He brings valuable expertise to the bid and tender process, with a practical understanding of commercial drivers and project requirements. This enables him to effectively support both clients and the organisation in achieving successful, well-aligned project outcomes.
Mike Zafari (Estimator)
With over 15 years in civil and structural engineering, Mike specialises in estimating and cost management for complex infrastructure projects. His experience spans both international and Australian markets, providing a well-rounded understanding of pricing, risk, and delivery within diverse project environments. Mike brings a practical, buildable approach to estimating—grounded in hands-on site experience and a deep understanding of construction methods.

Carruthers Contracting’s expert project management team oversee the organisation’s comprehensive delivery services across a wide-range of sectors, including: Residential developments, Infrastructure, Commercial, Resources and Local Council & Government. Offering a complete client service, this team’s affable approach to providing solutions, will assist with up-to-date contract administration and cost control measures.
Supervisors
With decades of combined experience in construction methodology, Carruthers Contracting’s project supervisory allows for pragmatic construction outcomes, working in conjunction with the wider construction team. Extracting performance by overseeing the Foreman group, the supervisory team will maximise the output by providing the required resources – in both staff and machinery – at the correct project milestones to ensure works are completed on time and within budget.

Carruthers Contracting Construction Foremen provide an extensive range of knowledge, experience and capabilities covering all areas of civil construction including earth works, pavement, concrete, sewer reticulation, storm water drainage and water reticulation. This highly skilled team is responsible for all production on-site including environmental, safety, and quality control.
